jon-hamm.jpgAccording to #1 New York Times bestselling author Vince Flynn, Mad Men actor Jon Hamm has the look and build to play “Mitch Rapp” in the yet to be cast movie adaptations of his immensely popular novels.

On this week’s Radio Happy Hour,  host Dr. Blogstein suggested Hamm for the Rapp role and described it as “the casting coup of the world” (whatever that means).  Flynn responded emphatically, “Oh gosh…Not a bad call,”  but warned that Hamm would “have to mess his hair up.”

When John McCain reaches across the aisle, it may be to pass a copy of a Vince Flynn book to Barack Obama.

According to the bestselling author, whose new book, Extreme Measures, releases tomorrow, both presidentextreme-measures.jpgial hopefuls are unlikely fans of his series of political thrillers.

In an interview set to air tomorrow night (click to hear), Flynn tells Dr. Blogstein’s Radio Happy Hour  that Senator Obama’s favorite Flynn book is Term Limits, a novel about murdering corrupt politicians!

Flynn also recently found out that Senator McCain reads his books and “loves them,” apparently in spite of the brutal and intense torture the series’ hero, Mitch Rapp, frequently inflicts on terrorist prisoners.

vince.jpgOne of the most frequent search items that lead information super highway travelers to DrBlogstein.com is “Mitch Rapp Movies” or (or some variation there of.)

Of course, its a search for information regarding any news about whether or not Hollywood is finally going to make a movie featuring Mitch Rapp, the main character in Radio Happy Hour favorite and New York Times #1 Bestselling author Vince Flynn’s novels.

Well, up until now, that search has always led to a dead end. Not only did we have no news but no news existed! In fact, you can click this link and hear for yourself Vince Flynn’s frustrations (interview begins approx. 42 minutes into show) when asked about a movie deal, when he appeared on the Radio Happy Hour back in October.

If you noticed, I said “up until now” in the previous paragraph. That’s because someone in Hollywood FINALLY figured out that making movies that people will want to see will most likely lead to big profits. And that someone is two people: Lorenzo di Bonaventura (”Transformers”) and Nick Wechsler (“We Own The Night”) who will be producing the films for CBS Films who has optioned the rights for Flynn’s Mitch Rapp character with the intention of creating a character-based, action-thriller movie franchise.

No word on when we’ll finally see Mitch Rapp kick ass on the big screen or who will be playing America’s favorite counter terrorism operative not named Jack Bauer, but I sure feel a lot safer knowing he’ll eventually be coming to a theater near me. . .

(See, I told you Vince Flynn is a Radio Happy Hour favorite)

Vince Flynn for President

Friday, October 13th, 2006

arrow_2.gif**An all new Vince Flynn interview when he returns to the Radio Happy Hour on Tuesday night October 21 at 9PM Eastern. Just click –> Vince Flynn.**

You may remember me talking about the new book by Vince Flynn last week. Well, I have Act of Treason and while I haven’t finished it yet, I can tell you that it’s a real winner. But what I’ve come to realize this week, with Vince Flynn “on the stump” is how Flynn himself is a real winner.

The man is a straight talker. He tells it like it is. (Which is obviously the same thing as calling him a “straight talker”) He also carries himself in a very (dare I say) presidential way.

He calls himself a Republican, but also indicates that he’s pro-choice and that gays can do whatever the hell they want (my wording, not his!) He takes a real hard stance on national security. I have yet to hear or read an interview where he takes a stand on stem cell research, but so far, he’s right in line with my line of thinking. A presidential candidate with those views is a presidential candidate that I would vote for–heck, that I’d campaign for.

Its well known that President Dubya is a big fan of Flynn’s books (and no, they’re NOT picture books!) President Bubba is also a fan of the author’s series. Already, Flynn is bridging the political divide!

If you’re still not sold, check out Flynn’s appearance today on Fox News:

Am I wrong? He’s quite presidential if you ask me.

Now, our one obstacle is that I’m pretty sure that Vince Flynn has no intentions on running for office and why should he? He’s probably making millions on his books. I’m not sure how to overcome that, but what I do know is that he reads his fan site message board. So it is there that I choose to officially nominate Vince Flynn for President!

P.S. : If there are any computer savvy people out there who could make me a logo that looks like a campaign poster for Vince Flynn I will be indebted to you for life–or at least for October. UPDATE!10-14-06: The logo to the right is courtesy of the lovely Miss Cellania.

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Our intrepid hero Jack Bauer has literally been on a slow boat to China since May. We wont find out his fate for another 3 months.

Luckily, the perfect “appetizer” to the Emmy Award Winning series comes out of the oven next week. While there is nothing in the world that can match the thrills, twists and excitement of 24, author Vince Flynn comes pretty damn close. So close, in fact, that Flynn worked on last season of 24 and is now collaborating with the creators of 24 for a pilot of his own.

Flynn’s new book, Act of Treason, hits bookstores on Tuesday. I’ve had mine preordered from Amazon.com since July! I’m that excited for it.

Believe me when I tell you that a Vince Flynn reading experience is like no other. His main character, Mitch Rapp, is as fearless and tough as Jack Bauer. Where Rapp has Bauer beat is in his ruthlessness. Rapp is more of a fan of a violent death for the bad guys than Bauer’s more professional executions (if there is such a thing.)

If you’ve never read a Vince Flynn book before (or any book for that matter), I have a feeling this is one I’d feel comfortable starting you off on. Just judging by how the last book ended, Mitch Rapp is sure to have a giant chip on his shoulder and a craving for some ass kicking!

(By the way, you’ll notice that I’ve used the terms “appetizer” and “craving” and the phrase “out of the oven”–Is there any doubt that I skipped lunch today?!?)

Do me a favor and read Act of Treason then come back here and tell me what you think. Its good stuff and I look forward to you telling me how right I am!

George W. Bush can read!

Monday, February 20th, 2006

arrow_2.gif**An all new Vince Flynn interview when he returns to the Radio Happy Hour on Tuesday night October 21 at 9PM Eastern. Just click –> Vince Flynn.**

Okay, okay, that was a low blow on President’s Day. Of course, President Bush can read, in fact, his dad taught us all how to read his lips.

The fact that George W. Bush can read isn’t the story here, its what he reads that makes this a story.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune (and who am I to doubt them?), George W. Bush is a fan of Vince Flynn. (For the record, so is Dr. Blogstein)

The Star-Trib reports that the President discovered Vince Flynn’s thrillers when he saw CIA Director Porter Goss reading one at Camp David. “He started rattling off my titles; said he was on ‘Memorial Day,’ ” Flynn told the paper. “He said he had a feeling I knew someone at the CIA because of how accurate they are.”

For those of you not familiar with Vince Flynn’s main character, Mitch Rapp, he’s a renegade CIA operative in the mold of Jack Bauer. He’s not afraid to go against protocol if its for the greater good and he’s not above torture to get answers from the bad guys. Any of this sound familiar?

I think we may have found the source of this administration’s policies. Could reading Vince Flynn have influenced the NSA wire tapping program? Could Vince Flynn’s books have led to the Abu Gharib torture? Is life imitating art?
