Are we responsible for Thomas M. Disch’s Suicide?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Despite Dr. Robi Ludwig’s brilliant analysis on last night’s show of Thomas M. Disch’s final interview, we’re still being blamed for the man’s suicide:

http://hisvorpal.wordpress.com/2008/07/08/a-failure-of-decency/ (its very long with a lot of words, but trust me, the take away is that the Radio Happy Hour pulled the trigger)

“To be savaged by a band of subliterate, caffeine-buzzed flying radio monkeys…Tom Disch surely had reasons for putting a gun to his head and pulling the trigger.”

Its astounding to me that fans of this man think so little of him to believe that a 10 minute appearance on our silly (yet highly listened to) show would push him over the edge and lead him to blow his brains out.

He was a beaten down, depressed and troubled individual. He would have killed himself with or without us (though perhaps we hastened the timing.)

I suppose its natural to find someone or something to blame for a tragedy but pick something other than the Radio Happy Hour because, if it was our fault, we better put Dr. Robi Ludwig, Jon Kelley and Phoenix Block, all of whom were on last night’s program, on suicide watch.

Jon Kelley, host of ABC’s hit reality series The Mole will stop by the Radio Happy Hour. We’ll get insight into the inner workings of the game, his role in the intrigue and we’ll use “extraordinary rendition” to get him to reveal who the mole is to us.

We’ll also talk sports with Kelley who was a star running back for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and covered all six Chicago Bulls world championships for WMAQ-TV in Chicago.

phoenixblock.jpgThen, band Phoenix Block visits Dr. B and Dangerous Lee. They’ll fill us in on their August 1st album release and their connection to the Barack Obama presidential campaign.

Also, renowned psychotherapist Dr. Robi Ludwig will help us analyze what turned out to be the final interview conducted by author Thomas M. Disch before he committed suicide just days after appearing on last Tuesday’s show.

All that, plus Vinny Bond drags his Big Leather Couch into the Radio Happy Hour Lounge to chat live with the listeners, Justin the Weatherman and we’ll take your calls at 646-652-4804.

Just two days after appearing on the Radio Happy Hour, Thomas M. Disch, AKA “God”, was found dead of an apparent suicide.

I hope it wasn’t something we said.

Talia Coles and God on the Radio Happy Hour

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Coming up this week on DR. BLOGSTEIN’S RADIO HAPPY HOUR: (Live on Tuesday July 1st at 9PM ET and forever archived at BlogTalkRadio.)

Continuing in the great Blogstein tradition of bringing you the Hot, Young, and Talented, Radio Jesus and Dangerous Lee welcome Talia Coles.

Coles is a singer, dancer and an actress. She was discovered by Warner Music Group A/R maven JoJo Brim, and made such an impression that they gave Coles her own label! “Couture Music” was founded with Brim last fall.

Her new single, “This Little Thing“, is blazing up the charts on New York City’s Power 105 FM which must be a dream come true for this Harlem native.

Also, this week God stops by–or at least a man who claims to be God.

Science Fiction writer Thomas M. Disch declared himself to be the Almighty in 2004, began answering questions AS God, and then published his first novel in nine years this summer.

We’ll find out if his new book “The Word of God” was divine intervention, if Disch is just a raving lunatic and we’ll ask him, if indeed he is God, how he feels about getting second billing to Talia Coles on the Radio Happy Hour.

All that, plus Vinny Bond drags his Big Leather Couch into the Radio Happy Hour Lounge to chat live with the listeners, Justin the Weatherman and we’ll take your calls at 646-652-4804.
