Not your father’s Demond Wilson

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

demond wilson demond wilson

When scheduled guest Demond Wilson was a no show on this week’s Radio Happy Hour, we were determined not to go “Demond Wilson-less.”

Instead of the beloved sitcom actor who played  Lamont Sanford on NBC’s 70’s hit Sanford and Son,we introduced the Blogstein audience to a band called Demond Wilson.

The band, discovered accidentally by co host (and lead singer of edibleRed) Collette McLafferty while she was researching the more well known Demond Wilson, describes themselves on their MySpace page as Black Metal, Progressive, and Ghettotech.

It is still unknown if the Helena, MT band is still active (or if they are racist–some of the songs are questionable.)

The Radio Happy Hour will continue to track them down and invite them onto the program.  Until then, scroll to the 46:26 minute of the show below to hear Dr. Blogstein, Collette McLafferty and Burl discover this new band. Then, at the very bottom of this post, feel free to sample their tunes.

Discover Demond Wilson–the band at the 46:26 minute mark

Radio Happy Hour

Actor Kevin Sorbo is best known for starring in two hugely successful television shows.

Sorbo quickly rose to stardom in 1993 in the title role of the hit series, “Hercules, the Legendary Journeys”.   The series not only became a breakout hit by becoming the number one first-run program in syndication, it also passed “Baywatch” as the most watched TV show in the world.

Sorbo then went on to star in the lead role of “Captain Dylan Hunt” in “Gene Roddenberry’s, Andromeda”. The series, based upon writings from the late “Star Trek” creator’s archives, debuted as the number one hour show in first run syndication and held that spot throughout it’s five year run from 2000-2005.

PhilPutnam

As the fat, girly kid in an athlete’s world, Phil Putnam rode the bench and read his books while his brain got bigger and his pride shrunk smaller. With the onset of Tourette’s Syndrome at age 9 and no solid music experience until high school, he was the clear long shot for a career in music.

His ambition, however, having all the subtlety of a teenager on prom night, never let up. He studied singing through high school and discovered a shockingly strong talent in piano when he taught himself to play in college. It wasn’t long before he combined his fresh musical skills with a lifelong love of writing and was introduced to his future.
