Bernie-mary jo

Though she’s not a psychologist, being Joey Buttafuoco’s ex-wife may make Mary Jo Buttafuoco uniquely qualified to identify sociopaths and according to the woman made famous by being shot in the head by Amy Fisher, disgraced financier Bernard Madoff is a card carrier.

“He’s like a white-collar sociopath,” Mary Jo told the Radio Happy Hour, “People trusted their life savings to this man. Obviously, he was a very well-liked, well-beloved man that he could get thousands of people involved with him, without anyone realizing what he was doing.”

“They look OK, they fit right in, they don’t have this wild look in their eyes. So when I heard that – and people were saying the biggest con man, the biggest scam artist, the biggest pyramid scheme – I was out there screaming, ‘That’s a sociopath!’”

Earlier this year, Mary Jo was sued by her ex husband for calling him a sociopath in her book Getting It Through My Thick Skull.

“Isn’t that hysterical?  I couldn’t believe it,” she said of the lawsuit, “I said, ‘Honey, believe me, you defamed your character long before I got to it.’”

In her new book, “Getting It Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know,” she answers the question everyone has been asking: Why did she stand by her husband, Joey Buttafuoco, as he and Fisher continued to make news?

She reveals new private details about her struggles and helps people understand the tell-tale signs of a sociopath. She also offers hope on how to reclaim your life after tragedy.
