If Artie’s out, who’s in?

by Craig

Newsday’s Pop Culture blog, Pet Rock, speculated recently on who would replace Artie Lange on the Howard Stern Show, assuming the Hoboken comedian really is leaving the show.

If Artie leaves, it would be a big chair to fill, literally and figuratively. Who would be a good fit?

Pet Rock plays it straight, suggesting regulars Greg FitzSimmons, Nick Dipaolo, Bob Levy, Jim Florentine and John Hein. All are well-known to Stern listeners, and of the five, only one - Hein - isn’t a working stand-up comic. But why give up on Hoboken? We’d like to nominate Adam Wade or Chris DeLuca for the post. Both are professional comedians and each would bring a distinctive voice to the show. And if they’re looking to go in an entirely different direction, how about Dr. Blogstein? He’s got plenty of (Internet) radio experience, much of it relevant to the Howard Stern Show.

Shameless Plea

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Have I ever asked any of you to do anything for me? I mean besides asking you to visit my site and listen to the Radio Happy Hour. Well, actually what I’m about to ask you for isn’t really me asking. Its my ego asking you.

I’ve been nominated for the Blogger’s Choice Award for Best Podcast which clearly we are. But right now, we’re trailing some lame show called Keith and the Girl (”the girl“? At least I allow my girl to use her name) and we’re just a hair ahead of The Dawn and Drew Show (whoever those freaks are.)

I didn’t ask to be nominated. I didn’t even know about the Blogger’s Choice Awards before Monday. But now that I’m in it, I want to win it. Scratch that. I need to win it. Please help me do it.

Click this and then vote for Dr. Blogstein. You’ll need to register but I swear it only takes 20 seconds. Then tell all your friends to do it. It will be fun. Pretend you’re voting for Sanjaya.

Thank You,

Edwin (Dr. B’s ego–yes, Dr. B named his ego too)

UPDATE 4/12/06 9:45 AM We’ve now dropped to fourth place! Dawn and Drew have jumped ahead of us, as has “Vegan Freak Radio” Come on you carnivores, we can’t let the vegans win! A vote for Blogstein is a vote for steak!

Jaime from “The Girl Also Blogs” fills in for Jane and will join Dr. B as his co-host this week. The good doctor will surely ask the beautiful Jaime about the controversial feud she she had with a fellow blogger that forced her to shut down her site for a few weeks late last year. We’ll also dig deep into the self-admitted crush that she has on me.

Also, Stewart Fox will stop by and chat with Dr. Blogstein and Jaime about his humanitarian project called HowNotToGetLaid.com– a reader-generated collection of “coitus rejectus” – tales of seduction gone wrong. Call in with your stories of tearing defeat from the jaws of victory in the game of love. We’ll share if you share! Our number is 646-652-4804.

Plus, Martin Jordan AKA “Psychic Boy”, co-host of Blog Talk Radio’s “Laughing Through the Veil” will dazzle us with his supernatural powers. And as an added bonus, he’ll have his Chat Room open while he’s on the Radio Happy Hour.

Join us every Tuesday night at 9PM ET. And if you miss us then, we’re forever archived at Blog Talk Radio. You’re either with us or against us.

Father Felony Signs Publishing Deal

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

(RIPON, CA) Disgraced California Pastor, Randall “Father Felony” Radic, announced today that he signed a deal with Ephemera Bound publishers of Fargo, ND to publish his memoir, “The Sound of Meat”. The book will be released on June 30, 2007.

Radic, who made national news back in 2005 for fraudulently selling the deed to church out from under his congregation, had been on a quest for nearly a year to get his life story published.

His goal of getting published took a step in the right direction when web sensation Dr. Blogstein made public an introductory email that Radic had sent him.

What followed were several appearances on www.DrBlogstein.com, including an exclusive interview last July. Radic’s story was also picked up by respected publishing blogs Grumpy Old Bookman and Books, Inq.

Up until now, “The Sound of Meat” was only available as an e-book through Cool Publications.

"Dr. Blogstein was a huge hit!"

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

“My Point Radio” of the BTR network went back on the air this morning still glowing from their show Monday night which featured me as their guest.

As you’ll recall, because it was only two days ago and because I wont stop reminding you, I was such a huge hit that Alan Levy, the CEO of Blog Talk Radio, called in to offer me my own show (which will debut next month!)

But back to this morning’s show, click here then go to the player on the right hand side of the page. Press play and fast forward to the 15:40 mark to where they begin talking about yours truly. You’ll here things like David Odeen of “My Point” saying that my appearance was a “huge success” and Jenn of the Jungle of Screw Politically Correct BS” saying that I have a “great radio voice.” I couldn’t agree with them more!

Keep listening though, because at the 17:43 mark you’ll hear Jenn refer to our Jewish Puerto Rican African Indian American Princess Tisha as a “stalker.” Uh oh! I do hope Jenn knows what kind of wrath she’s opened herself up for!

We may have to settle this when Dr. Blogstein’s Radio Happy Hour debuts in February on Blog Talk Radio!

Have I mentioned that I have a new show coming?

UPDATE 1/19/07 According to David Odeen of “My Point Radio”, my appearance on his show was his most downloaded show ever! He indicates that I “blew away” his previous high.

Radio Debut

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Tonight at 7:00 PM ET I’m hitting the air waves! As you see in my previous post, your’s truly will be a guest on “My Point,” a live, one hour program carried on Blog Talk Radio. The show can be heard live by following this link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/hostpage.aspx?show_id=8482 and I believe it will remain archived there forever. Lucky me.

The show is hosted by David Odeen of “My Point” and “Jenn of the Jungle” of “Screw Politically Correct BS” and is a political and current event talk show from a conservative point of view. According to Blog Talk Radio, I’m being billed as a “very funny conservative blogger.”

Now, I’ve always known myself to be “very funny” (though I would have described me as EXTREMELY funny) but as far as being “conservative,” that was news to me. I sure as hell aint “Colmes” but I never considered myself “Hannity” either. I suppose if the hosts keep the discussion on killing terrorists and hating Osama bin Laden I’ll be okay, but if they ask for my views on abortion or whether or not I care about gay marriage, then they may not like me anymore. We’ll see.

According to Odeen’s blog My Point” they plan on engaging me in conversation about such things “as some of our favorite authors, like Vince Flynn and Brad Thor.” But beyond that, I have no idea what they plan on filling the 90 minutes with. But I’m coming prepared!

  • I watched last night’s premiere of the kick-ass, sixth season of 24 in case they decide to talk about that. (For the record, I’d have watched 24 regardless of this interview or not.)
  • I bought a newspaper, though truth be told, I haven’t read it yet. (Anything happen that I should know about?)
  • I re-watched Saddam getting hanged (or hung?)

Hopefully, that will be enough to keep me interesting. If not, please be my safety valve. Its a “call-in” show so feel free to call in. The number is (347) 996-5948. Call in, say hi, join the discussion, start a new discussion, whatever.

And also, feel free to use the comment section below to let me know how I’m doing, what I should do, how I did, how smart I am, how you want my body, whatever.

UPDATE! 1/16/07: My appearance on “My Point”, including the CEO of BlogTalkRadio offering me my own show, can be heard here…

Stay tuned for details of The Dr. Blogstein Radio Happy Hour coming to BlogTalkRadio in February!

FUNNIEST POSTS OF 2006

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

I wish you all could see me right now, typing all this up while wearing my well pressed tuxedo. Oh boy, this is a big event! We are unveiling the funniest posts of 2006 from across the entire world wide web!

What you’re about to see are submissions from bloggers worldwide of what they considered their funniest post of last year. You’ll be surprised at what some people consider funny. But I’m not here to judge, I’m just here to host. . .

Welcome to The Bestest Blog Carnival 1.3 which is concept thought up by the P.T. Barnum of the blogging world, Mr. Bobby Griffin of “The Bestest Blog of All-Time” where content comes before correct English.

And speaking of correct English, I’d like to begin by calling out a post that wasn’t submitted by the blogger but that I’ve chosen nominate myself. “Janna”, who was kind enough to design the brilliant looking logo atop this post, writes about Australian slang on her blog “One More Raindrop In A Bloggy Ocean” Excuse me as I go chunder in the dunny.

Now, onto our show. I will begin by playing favorites. The first group of the Funniest Posts of 2006 are from “Friends of Blogstein.” These are just some of the personalities (read: wackjobs) that stop by here at Dr. Blogstein and frequently contribute their two cents.

  • First up, my man “Slaghammer” of “Alchemy Anyone?” After reading his post titled “Grand Entry” I wasn’t able to sit for days.

  • Next, let’s hear from a chick that’s been kickin the retro cat-eye librarian look for years, the sexy “Starrlight” of “Here Comes A Storm“. You wont want her as your travel agent after reading her humorous post, “Girl, Get Me Out Of This Hell Hole

  • Finally, and this happens to be one of my favorites of the entire carnival, we all know him as “The Bizarre Jokester” of India’s funniest blog, “The Jokes Blog” and the dude (I think it’s a dude) even manages to make math funny in “The MATHS Joke!

Let’s move on to what we’ll call Best in Show. These happen to be my personal favorites out of all the carnival submissions. Not being included here does not necessarily mean that your post isn’t funny, though it might.

  • If you know anything about me, you know I get a kick out of those Spam Scam emails so when I saw this goof on a “Nigerian Blogging Scam” I damn near plagiarized the whole thing! Don’t worry, Justin, if I steal your ideas I’ll be sure to give full credit to your blog, “More Cowbell .”
  • Admittedly, I had never heard of the blog “Antichrist & Minotaur Man” before I started doing this Carnival but now that I’ve discovered it, I’ll have to return some more. This guy is funny. Check out his wacky, insomnia induced story called “Units in the Ocean.” Die you devilish creature of the sea!

Well, it looks like it time for our first musical performance of the evening. Ladies and gentleman, put your hands together for this touching tribute to The Children of Myspace:

Wow! Inspiring! Thank you! Next category is The Faux-Interview. This was a comedic device used with tremendous success by two of our contributors.

  • Bobbarama goes soaring into uncharted waters at bobbarama.com with an exclusive interview with gruffy Professor Phil Pelican, the leading expert on ‘pels’ — Mother Nature’s unlikeliest ‘flights of fancy.’

Holy crap this is a lot of work! For the record, this is the most thought I’ve ever had to put into one of my posts! Speaking of crap. . .tell me, who in their right mind doen’t like bathroom humor? Seriously! Well, if you’re as sophisticated as I am, you are in luck. Whether you’re a fan of “#1″ or “#2″ do I have a couple of posts for you!

Moving on. . .Let’s face it, if you’re reading Dr. Blogstein, you’re a nerd or at least a part nerd. Its nothing to be ashamed of, in fact, it means that you should enjoy the next grouping of Nerdtastic Humor featuring topics such as blogging, video games and The Simpsons.

  • Last though possibly the most nerdy of the Nerdtastic Humor grouping is Idea Book’s Ask Hawkins B.A.: Wee Pirate vs. Leprachaun. But don’t anyone try to pretend that you never spent nights wondering who would win in a fair fight between a wee pirate or a leprachaun?

And now, a word from our sponsors:

And we’re back to what is easily becoming the longest post in Dr. Blogstein history! Our next category is the
Alzheimer’s Humor. That’s right, we have two submissions that poke fun at or laugh at the disease because I guess if you can’t laugh at dementia , then what can you laugh at?

  • Karma Karma of JewBu Quest is a Jew who practices forms of Buddhist meditation & spirituality. She also makes the best of a tragic situation in “My Mom is Cute” a touching and very human post. Keep laughing!

How about we move onto a little Holiday Hilarity? We have some X-Mas lights and Halloween hijinx.

  • Let’s start with Christmas while its still fresh in our memories. “They’re Everywhere!!!” could have been called “When Christmas Lights Attack” and is your chance to see Kara of “A Bit of Me” use the phrase “I almost wet my pants.”

Let’s check some of the funniest Public Service posts of 2006.

Now onto the Mothers of All Posts: Funny posts by moms, about moms, and for moms. Mommy blogs are great. I will never, ever, ever say anything bad about a mommy blog again. I love them all so dearly.

By the way, my apologies to CaptainDramaticsMom for not posting her link. For some reason I couldn’t open it up without it closing all my browsers. Nothing against you, I swear.

Now, let’s sit back and enjoy our second musical act of the evening, then we’ll return to conclude the BESTEST BLOG CARNIVAL. This song is in honor of all the pansies getting ready to root for the New England Patriots this weekend in the NFL Playoffs.

Wonderful! Wonderful! Thank you for that spirited performance. Is this post dragging on long enough for you guys? Well, stay with me, we have five more of the funniest posts of 2006 to go.

Did you know that in the first season of Gilligan’s Island, the theme song did not include Mary Ann or The Professor? They were important characters but were lumped into the lyrics as “all the rest.” Well, all of that to say that I’m lumping the final five posts into All The Rest because not of them fit any of my categories.

  • Kevin of Humble Tidbits of Vacuity will leave you cracking up with this post. Let’s just say, his friend Stevie loses his “virginity” at ten-years-old. . .to Wilbur the dog.
  • And finally, look no further than “The Missal” for Juan Wartina Garcia’s hilarious look at New York City’s ban on “Trans-Fat.” I, much like Garcia, am stunned that fat people can not use the transit system. But you know what? They could use the exercise.

Well, that finally closes the book on 2006. If you had half as much fun reading this as I had putting it together then I will have doubled your fun.

Thank you all for stopping by. Please come again. Stay tuned for your late, local news except for those of you on the west coast.

Good night everyone!
