New York Times bestselling author Brad Thor will hang out with the Radio Happy Hour just one week before he embarks on a 12-city book tour.

Thor, whose new book The First Commandment hits bookstores on July 17th, will discuss his involvement in a little known Department of Homeland Security committee. He’ll also talk current events and he’ll tell us whether immensely infamous and terrifically evil “Troll” makes another appearance in his new book.

Also, we’ll take a trip to 1965 and interview the Fab Four. That’s right! John, Paul, George and Ringo will be live on air to perform a couple of their classic tunes! For the less gullible, Anthony Pomes and John Tabacco of Mostly Moptop, the ultimate Beatles tribute band, will entertain us and start the Radio Happy Hour British Invasion.

All that, plus find out who will be sitting in for Jane this week, we’ll see if we can locate the whereabouts of Vinny “Nice Guy” and as always, your calls at 646-652-4804.

Join us live every Tuesday night at 9PM ET. And if you miss us then, we’re ALWAYS ON right here and at our Radio Happy Hour affiliates found in the right sidebar. In fact, do yourself a favor and click here to SUBSCRIBE TO THE RADIO HAPPY HOUR!

If that’s not a campaign slogan, I don’t know what is!

Brad Thor, New York Times bestselling author of the upcoming novel The First Commandment and soon-to-be Radio Happy Hour guest on Tuesday July 10th, has drawn the ire of many after he suggested the installation of jailed former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega as dictator of Iraq on an appearance last week on Glenn Beck’s TV show.

See the video of Brad Thor’s appearance on Glenn Beck’s program.

Thor went on to say, “We need a dictator back in that country. That’s all those people respond to. The Arab world is so messed up, they can’t — you can’t give people democracy. They have to earn it. So let’s put our own strongman in there like we did with the shah, and let’s — let’s make it work.

While it was clear to me that it was said tongue-in-cheek, I say, let’s not close off that idea yet. Back on February 23, 2006 I suggested putting Saddam back in charge for the same reasons. While that’s impossible now, perhaps one of his body doubles could be propped up and put in charge–though before that’s done it would have to be carefully explained to George W. as we don’t want him to get confused and go Shock & Awe again.

But short of a Saddam body double, I think Thor is onto something with Noriega. The man has the dictatorial experience (Noriega, not Thor), he’s not Sunni or Shiite or Kurdish so favoritism will not be an issue and I’m sure he’s just dying to get out of his cell and back into a Panamanian style heat.

I say give it try. It really can’t get much worse.

Welcome to Iraq

Brad Thor, one of the finest thriller writers in the world today, whose books usually take on Islamic Radical Fundamentalist terrorists, is now taking on the National Football League.

Huh?

Yeah, you read that correctly. In his blog on Amazon.com, Thor cites this recent Fox News report that the NFL refused to run a U.S. Border Patrol recruitment ad in last month’s Super Bowl program because it thought certain language in the ad, specifically the terms “terrorists,” “illegal aliens” and “drug smugglers”, might offend attendees. Because of this, Thor is calling for a boycott of the NFL.

To say that I am shocked is an understatement,” Thor states in his blog post, “I never knew that terrorists, illegal aliens and drug smugglers comprised such a stalwart base of NFL customers. Heaven forbid the NFL should offend them.”

Thor believes the NFL made this decision because they are currently considering a foreign franchise in the next 10 years, with Mexico City a strong contender. He cites this quote from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell:

“We love Mexico. We have a great fan base there. It’s growing every day. We are very interested in going back. And we hope to be dealing with the various officials in Mexico to try to get that done for the 2008 season.”

To me, it does seem silly that the NFL would decline to take money from the government to run this ad that hoped to help reach President Bush’s goal of boosting Border Patrol’s ranks to 18,000. I mean, if the NFL really wants Mexico to have a franchise doesn’t it behoove the league to keep the potential fan base in that country? At this rate, the best way to reach the Mexican market would be to finally bring an NFL franchise back to Los Angeles!

I vow to fully support Brad Thor’s call for a boycott of the National Football League. . .at least until September.

I also vow NOT to watch the NFL Network that is still currently unavailable on my local cable system.

By the way, Brad Thor is from Chicago and is a Chicago Bears fan though that is reportedly not the cause of his bitterness towards the game of football.
