UPDATE: Due to the unpredictability of his job, our serviceman has to reschedule his visit to the Radio Happy Hour. He gave some thin excuse of having to fight a war or something.

Joey G. from The Sopranos will finally make his way to the Radio Happy Hour. If you remember back three week’s ago, the actor best know for portraying the gay mobster Vito Spatafore was scheduled to be a guest but stood us up. Also, back in February, my attorney, Neil, challenged my co-host, Jane, to a karaoke contest. This week, the karaoke grudge match
is on! (and the trash talking has been flooding my inbox!)

They’ll each sing one song and will be judged by a panel of three experts –or at least two experts and Dr. Blogstein. The other judges are Britt, from the popular Idol Radio Show, and talent representative Jonathan Clardy.

All that, plus your calls at 646-652-4804 and we’ll be interviewing a candidate for our internship, live on the air!

Join us every Tuesday night at 9PM ET. And if you miss us then, we’re forever archived at BlogTalkRadio. Listening to us will make you feel real good about yourself.

Mickey Mantle: Jerk or Evolved Soul? Bestselling sportswriter Peter Golenbock will join Dr. B and Jane to discuss this very issue. Golenbock’s new book, 7: The Mickey Mantle Novel, started a firestorm of controversy for suggesting, among other things, that Mantle had an affair with Marilyn Monroe and that he was sexually abused as a child.

Golenbock was also responsible for bringing celebrity book publisher Judith Regan to her knees (or was that Bernard Kerik?), leading to her firing late last year.

Also, Indian-American (not to be confused with American-Indian) blogger Santosh Hari will stop by to discuss the growing importance of Indian culture and Bollywood in American entertainment–heck, who are we kidding? He’s coming on to talk about American Idol’s Sanjaya.

All that, plus more Vinny Bond from his Big (Black) Leather Couch and of course, your calls at 646-652-4804.

Join us every Tuesday night at 9PM ET. And if you miss us then, we’re forever archived at BlogTalkRadio. Listen to every second because you never know when something memorable will go down.

Ryan Seacrest is an undercover CIA operative

Monday, October 30th, 2006

The headline of this post is ridiculous and obviously not true (I think.) However, it is there to demonstrate a point.

A new book claims that famed escape artist Harry Houdini was a spy for Scotland Yard, monitored Russian anarchists and chased counterfeiters for the U.S. Secret Service. According to The Secret Life of Houdini, the magician used his act as a front for his real career in espionage and law enforcement.

All of this is fascinating and is making big news today, a full EIGHTY years after the death of Houdini. There is probably nobody left alive who had ever watched Houdini perform yet we all know who Houdini was. And we’re all intrigued by these new revelations.

Is there anyone alive today that you think we’ll be interested in 80 years after they die? I’ve been thinking about it all day and can’t come up with a single one.

Maybe Madonna. Maybe.

They don’t make famous people like they used to. Guys like Harry Houdini and Babe Ruth were larger than life. They were legends while they were still living. Celebrities of today are lame and disposable.

Are our great-great grandkids going to care when a book comes out proving that Ryan Seacrest was an undercover CIA operative using American Idol auditions as a front to hunt down terrorists? No. They’ll probably ask, “Ryan who?” Will they care when the definitive Oprah biography claims that she was the driving force behind the War in Iraq?

We are still in awe of Harry Houdini–a man who has been dead for almost thirty years longer than he was alive. Who will our great-great grandchildren be in awe with?

Probably Harry Houdini.
