Though she’s not a psychologist, being Joey Buttafuoco’s ex-wife may make Mary Jo Buttafuocouniquely qualified to identify sociopaths and according to the woman made famous by being shot in the head by Amy Fisher, disgraced financier Bernard Madoff is a card carrier.
“He’s like a white-collar sociopath,” Mary Jo told the Radio Happy Hour, “People trusted their life savings to this man. Obviously, he was a very well-liked, well-beloved man that he could get thousands of people involved with him, without anyone realizing what he was doing.”
“They look OK, they fit right in, they don’t have this wild look in their eyes. So when I heard that – and people were saying the biggest con man, the biggest scam artist, the biggest pyramid scheme – I was out there screaming, ‘That’s a sociopath!’”
“Isn’t that hysterical? I couldn’t believe it,” she said of the lawsuit, “I said, ‘Honey, believe me, you defamed your character long before I got to it.’”
