One of the most frequent search items that lead information super highway travelers to DrBlogstein.com is “Mitch Rapp Movies” or (or some variation there of.)
Of course, its a search for information regarding any news about whether or not Hollywood is finally going to make a movie featuring Mitch Rapp, the main character in Radio Happy Hour favorite and New York Times #1 Bestselling author Vince Flynn’s novels.
Well, up until now, that search has always led to a dead end. Not only did we have no news but no news existed! In fact, you can click this link and hear for yourself Vince Flynn’s frustrations (interview begins approx. 42 minutes into show) when asked about a movie deal, when he appeared on the Radio Happy Hour back in October.
If you noticed, I said “up until now” in the previous paragraph. That’s because someone in Hollywood FINALLY figured out that making movies that people will want to see will most likely lead to big profits. And that someone is two people: Lorenzo di Bonaventura (”Transformers”) and Nick Wechsler (“We Own The Night”) who will be producing the films for CBS Films who has optioned the rights for Flynn’s Mitch Rapp character with the intention of creating a character-based, action-thriller movie franchise.
No word on when we’ll finally see Mitch Rapp kick ass on the big screen or who will be playing America’s favorite counter terrorism operative not named Jack Bauer, but I sure feel a lot safer knowing he’ll eventually be coming to a theater near me. . .
(See, I told you Vince Flynn is a Radio Happy Hour favorite)

Josh Hartnett as Mitch Rapp.
I can’t think of anyone better
to play our hero.

My choice has always been The Rock. REALLY out of the box, but when I picture Mitch, he looks like The Rock.

Youve got to get just the right person to play Mitch Rapp. You cant just find some random person. It has to be perfect. I mean come on its Mitch Rapp>

The Rock… hmmm…. a little beefier than I pictured Mitch but I do like him. I could do The Rock and Josh Hartnett as Mitch. (I could “do” them as themselves too if need be)

How about Gerard Butler or Hugh Jackman. They both have a rugged look when unshaven. They are both in great shape. They’re 40, perhaps a bit old for the beginning of a trilogy of movies. Someone 30 would probably be ideal, but I think these guys would be great. Thoughts?

See Doc..I thought you had it nailed when you said Matthew Fox…

I think I suggested Matthew Fox to Brad Thor to play Scot Harvath.

The Rock is too Muscle bound. The Rock is more of a Jack Reacher character. For Mitch Rapp you need someone like Matt Damon…too bad hes Jason Bourne

I agree with morgie, the rock is much to beefy for Mitch Rapp. Remember he is was a world class tri-athlete at one point, which would put him on the leaner side. I hope the movie has a Jason Bourne type of movie atmosphere; more serious than a lot of other movies, but I also think Mitch is more of an out going character than Jason Bourne (shoots his mouth off and isn’t afraid of a verbel conflict, etc.). If Gerard Butler became a leaner version of himself in 300, he would be a great candidate for Mitch Rapp. I think Colin Farrell would be a great character for Scott Coleman(with died blond hair). He comes off as a smart-ass and someone not quite as serious as a Mitch Rapp character, which portrays Coleman prefectly.

I agree with morgie on The Rock analysis, he seems to big with Mitch being a world class tri-athlete. A better suited person would be Gerard Butler like Michael said. For Scott Coleman, a blond Collin Ferrell seems to be a good choice because he plays the smart-ass role very well.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I also had the Rock playing Jack Reacher, from Lee Child fame. I think Hugh Jackman would be a great Mitch Rapp, or how about Scott Caan? I think if people could get over the “pretty boy, high school” fascade, Scot Walker would be a good Scot Harvath.

I have a new favorite choice for Mitch Rapp. Jon Hamm of “Mad Men”
October 17th, 2008 at 3:00 am
Jon Hamm would be good or Clive Owen. Also I think Eric Close form without a trace would be a great fit if he buffed up a little.

The best actor to play Mitch Rapp is Colin Ferrell. He’s dark and brooding, and could easily passed as a believable Arab when undercover. He’s the right size, the right shape, and a good actor in need of a franchise role.
I hope the film makers do the books justice.

It’s more than past time for a Mitch Rapp movie series. They are great books and would be a fantastic series. Get it done now!

A lot of names come to mind to play Mitch. Some of them are actors from England or Australia. We’d have to assume they can do a perfect american accent, otherwise it would never work. One guy who looks the part, but might not have the tools is Josh Brolin. Mitch might have to be a no name.
I would be happy with Jon Hamm

I would like to see Mariska’s Hargatay’s husband, Peter Herman, play
Mitch Rapp. I think he should be interviewed for the part…he is tall and rugged looking and kind of has that “kick ass” look to him.
