United States of Television

I need your help on this rather ridiculous project. I would like to find at least one television show set in each of our 50 states. This is something I’ve always wanted to complete for reasons I can’t fathom.

I’ll show you what I’ve been able to come up with on my own. Please note that obviously multiple shows are set in states like New York and California. I will only list one of them in that scenario.

Please help me with the states I haven’t been able to fill. It will mean quite a bit to my sanity.

UPDATE! 11-15-06: 3 states to go!

  1. Joe Says:

Frank’s Place was set in a New Orleans restaurant, so there’s one for louisiana.

Little house on the prairie is on the tv here in colombia every day, I don’t know if the people here think that’s how life in the midwest still is. That’s south dakota.

    Nash bridges – tennessee

  2. rtlsnke Says:

The show Sky King from back in the late 50’s early 60’s was set in Arizona. It featured Skyler King his daughter Penny and their airplane “Songbird”. They lived on the Flying Crown Ranch near the town of Grover, AZ.

  3. Jill Says:

OK, it wasn’t successful series, but it did exist.

    Indiana: Breaking Away

  4. Jill Says:

    One more, Virginia: The Waltons

This is going to drive me nuts now, I just know it.

  5. Dr. Blogstein Says:

Wow…you guys are good! I knew my readers would start to come through. The only one that I’m having trouble confirming is Joe’s assertion that LH on the Prairie is in South Dakota. There is a museum about it there but the TV series (at least according to Wikipedia) was set in Minnesota. Anyone out there know for sure?

  9. rtlsnke Says:

    Iowa – Aired: 1984 – 1986
    Show Type: Live Action
    Country of Origin: US
Show Summary: Double Trouble starred identical twins Jean and Liz Sagal as Kate and Allison Foster, two teenagers living in Des Moines, Iowa, under the watchful eye of their father, Art Foster (played by veteran character actor Donnelly Rhodes). Similarly to both Parent Trap and Patty Duke, most of the show’s comedy was generated from the fact that one twin was serious while the other more laid-back and happy-go-lucky. Patricia Richardson also appeared during the show’s first season.

  10. rtlsnke Says:

Sorry the name of the show above was Double Trouble.

  11. rtlsnke Says:

    Missouri – Malcolm & Eddie 1996-2000
Malcolm McGee (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) is a responsible and sensible 20-something who ends up sharing a Kansas City apartment and a business venture with relentlessly enthusiastic tow truck owner Eddie Sherman (Eddie Griffin).

  12. rtlsnke Says:

    Duh…..
    South Dakota – HBO’s Deadwood.

Arkansas: Evening Shade staring Burt Reynolds

  19. rtlsnke Says:

Perhaps Delta starring Delta Burk set in Nashville would be a better choice for Tennessee. However you did say television show not series. I guess both would work.

  20. Dr. Blogstein Says:

Good call on Evening Shade, RTL. You’re throwing them faster than I can catch them!!!
Let me check on Delta, I don’t remember that show.

  21. rtlsnke Says:

My son suggested First Impressions for Nebraska. He is a big Brad Garrett fan and thought it was set in Omaha. I will do my searches this evening but if you have time perhaps it works.

  22. Dr. Blogstein Says:

Delta worked for TN! RTL is our MVP of this! Whatever “this” is!

  23. Dr. Blogstein Says:

  30. rtlsnke Says:

Can find nothing on the last three states except references to Amazing Grace for Idaho, My Secret Identity for ND and The Pretender for Delaware. None of those can be confirmed. I found those last night on other blogs attempting the same exercise. I could not find references anywhere that places the setting of those shows

  31. Dr. Blogstein Says:

Someone has tried this before? I’m not the only nut case out there?

  32. rtlsnke Says:

Thanks Dr B for the fun exercise in TV trivia. I have set up my blog now just need to add some content. I will be checking in from time to time. Take care.
